Last year, I was totally like “New year, New me”. I was also under this impression that I was going to go through a huge transformation and some sort of personal enlightenment, but that was as big as a bust as Pamela Anderson’s tits. Pretty huge.
But listen here my dudes, I have an announcement: we are two days into 2019 and I’m back on my bullshit. I’m turning a new leaf (I know, I know, how cliché but I absolutely mean it this 100th time around).
To elaborate, this year I have decided to not be new, but to be old instead. I’m going to make sure the Reems from the past are the ones who actually guide the rest of 2019 (not some rando Reem visionary because only the lord knows how many new Reems have eff’d up the years prior). This 2019, I’m going to stop being someone I’m not and simply be me.
Goodbye unrealistic expectations and hello reality!
Now, let me fill you in on how I feel about last year. 2018 was a rollercoaster, but more like one of those rollercoasters that you find in the kiddie section of the amusement park; seemingly promising but actually quite unfulfilling.
Don’t get me wrong, 2018 wasn’t that terrible. It taught me a couple of interesting things like perseverance and acceptance. Learning about those things helped me a lot. Being able to persevere through hard times and accepting the outcomes for what they are also made me realize why confidence and patience were key when pursuing a goal. It taught me how even when you constantly are hitting roadblocks, you should remain confident and be patient. Because confidence highlights your efforts and patience adds to your character. Which is a cool take away right? (And when I say cool, I mean “is Pepsi instead of Coke ok?” kind of cool. Like ehh-sureee, I guess, at least it’s something.)
As this year continues, I will try to apply my new profound understandings to myself more. I will also try to find myself motivated enough to accomplish the things I set out to experience. And who knows? Maybe Reem from years past will finally use the lessons and advice she’s been given to good use.
Anyways, enough about me.
I would love to hear from you guys too. What are your resolutions for this new year? Feel free to message me or reply!
Happy New Year & may you hardcore commit to your resolutions just like that lady did to those Progressive commercials.
Ya girl,
Reem
